The visible part of the tooth is called the dental crown. When large parts of this natural crown are damaged by tooth decay or an accident, a filling is not enough and an artificial crown is needed. The damaged part is carefully removed and the tooth is prepared to support the “new crown”. Depending on the material chosen, the result can hardly be distinguished from natural teeth with the naked eye.

In contrast to full crowns, the partial crown is used when only a part of the visible tooth has to be replaced.

Bridges are used when one or more teeth are missing. It consists of a piece that replaces the missing tooth and at least one crown that sits on the neighbouring healthy tooth (anchor tooth). This preserves masticatory function, speech and aesthetics.
